Save Streak

You're handed a lead in the 8th or 9th of a real game from 2022 to 2025. Protect it to the final out and you've got the save. If the tying run scores, it's a blown save and the streak is over, even if your team wins it back later.

The record is Éric Gagné's 84 straight saves, from 2002 to 2004. How close can you get?

How it works

Every day, everyone gets the same real game from the 2024 or 2025 season, picked up in the 8th or 9th inning with the real score, lineups, benches and bullpens. Most of the luck is shared, so scores compare fairly, but a few bounces are yours alone. Relievers who worked the previous two days are unavailable. A game takes three to five minutes.

Before every hitter you make a call. Each plate appearance is then played out with a real big-league play from the same situation, drawn from the odds of that batter facing that pitcher.

On defensePitch to him, pitch around him, walk him, bring the infield in, or go to the pen. Optionally pick a pitch plan: lean on fastballs, breaking balls or offspeed, or work inside or away
At batLet him hit, pinch-hit, pinch-run, bunt, or steal

Infield-in and pitch-around effects aren't recorded in play-by-play data, so they use published baseball-research estimates. Pitch plans use each hitter's and pitcher's real Statcast results by pitch type; inside and away use league-wide Statcast rates. The effects are small: a good plan nudges the odds, it doesn't decide the at-bat. Everything else comes straight from real plays.

Every call is graded on win chance. Before the play happens, the rest of the game is simulated for every option you had, and your call is compared with the best one. A good call that doesn't work out is still a good call.

Solid · within 1.5
Shaky · within 3
Meltdown · more than 3 pts

Your score is mostly your calls. Winning the game adds a bonus.
